Boswellia
serrata is a tree found in the dry forests in some parts of
India. Clinical trials prove that this fragrant, transparent
and brownish yellow oleo-gum-resin has powerful anti-inflammatory
properties.
Boswellia serrata extract is prepared by alcoholic extraction
process of the oleo-gum-resin. The main ingredient of the extract
is Boswellic acids which is responsible for the Pharmaceutical
properties. It is also found to be anti-fungal, anti-bacterial,
analgesic and sedative. Boswellia serrata is mainly used in
rheumatic disorders, to improve appetite. Boswellic acids present
in Boswellia serrata extract inhibits leukotriene synthesis
by interacting directly with 5 lipoxygenases or blocking
its translocation.
